Certified Tutor

My philosophy is that everyone has the capability and capacity to learn and master new information and skills. Also, it takes an understanding, patient, dedicated, and highly skilled teacher to help a learner reach their full potential. I pride myself on this philosophy when I taught taught English abroad, taught English in NYC public secondary schools for 5 years, and interned at Maryland primary schools for 5 years and schools in Philadelphia, PA for 2 years. I earned a BA in Spanish and Psychology from McDaniel College and my teaching certification in Elementary Education in MD. To add, I have masters level graduate degrees in TESOL (from Columbia University), Mental Health, and Professional Counseling (from University of Pennsylvania). Now, I am working towards a Ph.D. in School Psychology (at Howard University). Even though I feel comfortable and strong in tutoring an array of subjects (e.g., reading/ literacy, writing and mathematics), I am enthusiastic about tutoring subjects such as Spanish,
Statistics, Psychology, and other subjects. Spanish is a language that has afforded me the opportunity to travel, work, and develop friendships across the Americas, which is why I love teaching and tutoring those who want to build their language skills in either Spanish and/or English. Statistics and Psychology are subjects related to my profession and helps me understand issues related to society, culture and social justice. Thus, I am passionate about subjects related to Psychology and Statistics, since I believe related topics are quintessential to understanding inequities and disparities to make a difference in the world.
