Certified Tutor

I have grown up around educators. The value and significance of a positive association with learning were instilled in me from an early age. I believe in helping students so they can grow and build a strong sense of their own selves. I believe by being a calm and positive force in their lives; they are more likely to want to learn and expand their overall development. I have worked in the public education system for most of my adult life. I have served as a daycare teacher, director, kindergarten teacher, substitute teacher, executive director of a nonprofit kindergarten, and online tutor privately and for a business. I have worked with students from early childhood into twelfth grade. I have my AA and AAT from OTC in Springfield, MO. I have my B.S. in elementary education from Drury University. I recently completed my thesis on The Importance of Play in Early Childhood and Elementary Years. I am set to graduate with my M.S.Ed. in curriculum and instruction in August 2023. I focus on early childhood and elementary grades and content areas as that is my degree and certification. But, I have tutored students in middle and high school. I love encouraging students to develop a love of literacy and all content areas. I believe relationship building comes before the content areas. A student must feel loved, safe, and support for them to be successful in their educational goals. I believe by being positive, patient, kind, and fun; students can become more comfortable and, in turn, share their successes and needs for assistance. I believe children learn best when they are supported, not rushed or filled with high anxiety; being a kind and patient teacher can help them feel positive and encouraged about their goals. I have two daughters and five pets; we spend much of our time playing, reading, and exploring. I love all things related to animals!
For your tutoring experience with me, you can expect a positive and patient teacher and session. I love to work with students concerning literacy, specifically phonics, letter identification, comprehension, and fluency. Many students need to use picture clues or go on a book walk before being able to build their literacy skills. For students who require assistance in math, it is crucial to use hands-on materials such as manipulatives. Students are more likely to excel in early addition, subtraction, and number recognition if they are supported and feel comfortable. For math, I will encourage confidence by praising students for their accomplishments and being patient and supportive when they need more assistance.
