Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of New York University. I hold a bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology, and I graduated cum laude (and a semester early). Applied Psychology is a research-heavy field and trains students in research and writing skills. Before I decided to major in psychology, I studied English, and took several English and writing classes. Currently, I plan to enroll in graduate school and pursue educational psychology. I believe that education is the cornerstone of our society, and is important for giving children ample opportunities in the future. I feel it is my purpose to help create a safe, positive, and productive educational environment for all children. Before joining 51Թ, I did in-person tutoring for an elementary school. Here, I tutored in all classroom subjects, including math, science, and language arts. Personally, my favorite subjects to teach are reading and writing, because I like hearing students' interpretations of the stories they read and seeing their creative sides come alive. When I'm tutoring, I try my best to be encouraging and meet students where they're at. I am a big fan of student-led learning as a way to build confidence. It's important to me that I keep a positive disposition at all times. When a student is working with me, they realize that it is okay to make mistakes, because that is how we learn and improve. I would never put a student down if they weren't grasping a concept, but instead seek a different strategy to help them understand it. It is important to recognize that everyone learns in different ways, and appealing to that student's learning style is the most effective way to help them learn. Academia is a huge part of my life, but outside of that I enjoy cooking, baking, and watching new films.
