Why am I passionate about helping students?
I believe everyone can learn. Tap into your learning style and it can happen! My 17 years of experience as and educator and tutor of learners with disabilities has proven that. In the middle school level, in elementary, or with adults, I've helped tailor instruction so that the "A-ha!" light bulb in the student's mind gets lit up, and a big smile of accomplishment and relief shines brightly. It's so satisfying!
I graduated from Southern Utah University with a bachelors degree in both Mild/Moderate Special Education K-12 and in Spanish Education - Secondary Level. My formal teaching experience includes teaching in public middle and elementary schools for 13 years, as a coordinator of special education services for young adults for 1 year, teaching English to non-native speakers of all ages for 1 year combined, and as a private reading tutor for 4 years. But informally, I have constantly nurtured learning in children as a nanny 2 times, as a church youth teacher for many years, as a mother and step-mother of 7, and as a step-grandmother to 16.
