During 4 years of teaching mathematics at many levels, from Algebra I-II including ACT Prep courses to K-8 math, as secondary education math teacher and as Title 1 math teacher, I have been constantly learning, gaining experience, and improving my professional practices. I present this experience, together with a commitment to continue learning and adjusting, to my future career as a teacher of mathematics. The most important takeaways throughout my teaching experience are (1) teaching of mathematics is not only teaching math facts but also being interactive and actively involving students in teaching and (2) believing the possibility to convey the same satisfying understanding in math to my students simply by using the right words to explain and being a role model for them. I believe that any student can be math person if they are provided flexibility to adapt. It is significant for a student to have core masteries in the math concepts which are taught in K-12. The only need is giving time and space to students to explore what is going on around them in regard with math and to teachers to develop and to grow. The point to be underlined here is for teachers to combine their own teaching practice and courage to admit. They need more time to remember what they know, to conceptualize what they teach, and to focus on deep understanding how they teach. It is critical to instill in our students that just because they may not be a "math person" yet, does not mean they cannot become one. There are many ways to open this door to students. As a math teacher, my goal is guiding them to pick the most appropriate way for themselves.
