Saina
Certified Tutor
I first began tutoring for an eighth grade composition class in high school and was amazed at the impact I could make by devoting a small amount of time to help a student. From there, my experiences grew in tutoring my younger brother and his friends in elementary math, history, and science. As I worked, I began to better understand that everybody has a different way of learning. I also found that communicating effectively makes all the difference in helping someone understand a new concept. I often find myself tutoring peers with whom I share a class and enjoy being able to see them understand the material we work on together. Sometimes, it's as simple as knowing background information or seeing material in a new light that makes all the difference in a student's confidence and understanding.
Not only is understanding the material imperative to tutoring but supplying resources and strengthening study skills will assist in retaining the new information. Therefore, my goals in being a tutor are to find a learning technique best suited for each student, supply them with resources, and encourage the use of customized study techniques and an effective study schedule to help achieve their goals.
