Certified Tutor

All through my life, I've helped a lot of people learn and I continue to do so. I have been tutoring and helping my peers learn since when I was a senior in high school, as an AS/A Levels student, and as a college student. I served as a tutor, teaching assistant, and peer leader during my entire academic experience.

I have led, taught, and coached different learners and students of different ages and educational levels to help them attain their various educational goals. I have tutored students in Public Speaking, ESL/ESOL, TOEFL, Writing, Communication Theories, Research Methods, Literature etc. I enjoy seeing learners and students I help achieve their educational and personal goals. I believe in teaching with patience and also in the saying that the "sky should be my stepping stone rather than my limit;" I take this philosophy with me everywhere I go even the classroom. In my experience, most students have distinct learning styles and identities so I strive to be innovative and adapt the subject to their individual learning style. It's very fulfilling when I see students I tutor, succeed or pass their exams. My teaching style and pedagogy is primarily learner centered.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, listening to podcasts, writing, and reading. I also love politics. I'm looking forward to working with you to help you achieve your academic goals.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is primarily learner-centered. I believe people learn at different paces, so I adapt my pedagogy to their needs.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I usually get to know the student and learn their expectations, determine their knowledge, and collaborate on a plan of action.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Personalizing instruction and also providing a student perspective helps. I've also learned that sequencing instruction and encouraging critical-thinking promotes independent learning.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Offering varied experiences, rewards, and a change of scenery often helps students stay motivated. Praising effort rather than intelligence also helps.
