I am very happy with our experience so far with 51Թ. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Julio

Certified Tutor

I am an alumni of Appalachian State University where I obtained a chemistry degree with a concentration of certified chemist along with a minor in mathematics. At Appalachian I would tutor my classmates and I also was a teacher assistance for algebra where occasionally I would teach a lesson. So from that I tutor chemistry and math. My favorite subject to tutor is math because usually math is easier to conceptually teach in lots of different ways. I would describe that my tutoring style relies on examples to make the student understand the concept, because no matter how hard a question may be if you understand the concept then you should be able to do it with just some critical thinking. Outside of academia I am usually gaming because I am also a professional gamer and hope to also move into content creation in the future.

Hobbies

I am a professional gamer and hopefully one day a content creator other than that since there is a pandemic right now I don't do much else. Before the pandemic I used to go to LAN events and science conventions, I graduated with a chemistry degree so science is for sure a hobby.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that a student should never feel as if they are not good or smart enough for a class, whatever the class may be.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Typically, I would ask what they already know so I would know where to start.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving them study habits I've learned and that I use, or if they prefer a different way of studying, I can give them study habits that I've seen other people do.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By telling them my past and how I've overcome my difficulties, because if someone can do it, then of course you can too, but you have to work hard for what you want.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will try to relate the concept to them in a different way using different analogies, so the concepts can be more understandable.
