Certified Tutor
I believe that ALL students are destined to succeed in education in their own way and their own terms. Sometimes it just takes others longer to grasp the information being taught to them and that is okay! I was one of those students and now I make it my mission to help those students that struggle the way I did academically. I succeeded and I know they will to!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that EVERY student deserves to know what it feels like to achieve when the odds are stacked against them. It is truly one of the greatest feelings in the world!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first lesson should be laid back and a chance for us to get to know one another. Learning can be bit frazzled when you aren't comfortable with the person that is there to help you succeed!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I love to share my story of struggle with my students, and then teach them how I overcame my struggles to find a system that worked for me at my level in terms of my learning and educational goals.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Student goals are amazing to have, and they are proven to help students stay motivated!
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
We start at the basic level, and we work our way up by using student goals and making sure that we are not overwhelming the student into frustration.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I have found that starting with student goals is the most successful in terms of a student staying motivated and being successful! Plus, it is a great way for the student to look back and see the gains they have made!
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I believe sharing my own struggle with a certain subject when I was in school is a big help in connecting with the student. It also shows them that success is possible and they are not alone!
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Educational games based on the material being taught is an awesome technique to use. It allows the student to relax and stay focused, while having fun at the same time.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Student goals are a great confidence booster, and I love to use stickers and incentives as well! Hey....stickers are cool!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I like to start with a pre-assessment so that I can get a better understanding of where to begin and be able to map out a course of action!
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Student goals help a lot as well as having a course of action planned out. Mini games help to make adjustments and keep the student focused. The goal being to meet the student where they currently are academically and building them up from there!
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
IPad, iPhone, Games, Student Data Binder, Goal Sheet, Mini Activities, and any other materials that I feel will help the student to connect to the material better.
