Hi, I'm a high school mathematics teacher. I believe all students can learn with the right support. I believe this is true because of my 10 years of teaching experience in a classroom. I've taught high school mathematics for the last 8 years. I've been tutoring for the last 15 years. I've tutored students of all ages in phonics, mathematics, and even adults studying for their GED. I love to teach and break things down so that students can understand. I have a lot of experience with different learning styles. I would love to work with and help you.

What is your teaching philosophy?

All students can learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Give student an assessment to see what level they are at, and their learning style.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By modeling first, and then letting them practice on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Using technology, games and real-life problems.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will teach in a different manner until they understand.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Define vocabulary.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Building a trusting relationship with your students.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By showing them that they can actually learn the materials. Once a student is no longer afraid, they are more likely to be excited and engaged.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Calculators, computers.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By showing them what they are doing right and helping increase their abilities.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Through formal and informal assessments. For example, written tests, or verbal and written practice problems.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

You must get to know how your student learns and at what level they are at in order to meet their needs. Then you must continue to assess them formally and informally to continue to increase their learning.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Paper, pencil, calculator, computer, tablets.
