Robin
Certified Tutor
I am a high school math teacher in Brooklyn who began tutoring when I was a high school student. I enjoy all things math and feel that all of my students need to build confidence in the skills they already have. I feel students can learn better in a one-on-one environment if they are motivated to do so. I will gladly work with you and your family to help you succeed in math!
When I'm not teaching, I love to cook and bake new recipes, watch sports, and explore what the city has to offer.

How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would take the time to understand where a student's anxiety is coming from. Is it the academics or something going on outside of the classroom? In order to keep my students motivated, I focus on positive feedback and encouragement while building confidence in them.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would attempt to approach the skill or concept from a concrete point of view and move to the abstract concept. Money is something you use every day and is easy to learn a new skill with. This can then be translated into the abstract representation.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I have also struggled with reading comprehension so I have a soft spot for struggling readers. I can teach students some strategies I use to break down and chunk the reading to make sure they maintain focus on the reading material.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It is very important to get to know students' strengths and weaknesses in academics, as well as likes and dislikes outside of school.
