Introduce myself, let them introduce themselves, and then ask what I can help with.

Make them find that they can do anything in the world if they really want to.

Using phrases like, “you are doing a good job,” “you can do it,” “this is great.”

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Take more time and be more patient with the student to find the reason for the problem.

Read with them, maybe with pictures, slowly, sentence by sentence, or word by word to understand the reading.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Motivate them at all times.

Find something fun they like to do and relate it with the topic.

Always ask questions about the topic, and always question if the topic is clear; if not, I’m here to help at all times.

Trying to be more familiar with things they like in relation with the material, and have them to talk openly about it like it is something fun.

When a student does not participate, is quiet, or looks lost.

Every day is an adaptation to a student’s needs. Improvise out of the regular teaching techniques, and try to find interest in all the materials and subjects.

Pictures, real stories, story books-- something that they are interested.

Always be patient, helpful, friendly, and ask questions if it is clear what has been taught.
