Sandra E Correa (Ph. D., Arizona State University) is a professor of Spanish Language and Culture. She has teaches courses on Spanish for business and the professions, contemporary Spain, as well as other courses related to the literatures and cultures of early modern Spain and Latin America.
Correa's research and speaking engagements feature transatlantic approaches to early modern literature, culture, and history of Spain and the New World, Cervantes, the picaresque, and global education and international engagement including study abroad.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy as a foreign language teacher is the students need to be immersed in the target language as much as possible.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will ask the student her weaknesses, and I would explain to her how we are going to work to get stronger in that specific area.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will give the students some tips on how to have success as an independent student.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would try to change activities in order to keep them motivated.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would go over and over again to make sure they get concept.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would give the student some tips in how to help them get the story's idea rather that translate every word.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Repetition, assessment immediately after the explanation.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I will give them techniques and tips to make the subject easier and fun.

I would give an assessment immediately after the explanation to make sure he/she understood.

Through repetition and assessment!

I would do an assessment first to find their level and to evaluate the kind of help they need.

Students’ needs are a priority, so I would adapt to their needs.
