What is your teaching philosophy?
Flexible, based on individual needs. I have collected test questions on various subjects. Together we will answer several of these test questions as well as working through distracting answers. The knowledge they obtain will carrying them into their future professions.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
We will introduce ourselves and share backgrounds. I will assess at what level the student is, or simply where they are getting stuck. From that point, we will begin from what the student knows and progress forward in a step-wise fashion.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Students will be presented with various situations in which they can understand how concepts can be applied. In this way, students will understand the topic, rather than just regurgitating material.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Results are based on practice, which requires discipline. Students will be given homework and will be instructed to utilize specific media sources between sessions.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Initially, I try to find common ground from which we can both relate.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I have high expectations of my students, which helps to keep them motivated.
