What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to keep students engaged by incorporating fun and interesting lesson plans, using positive reinforcement and being flexible to different types of learners.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First I would introduce myself, give them a little bit of background information about me, and then take some time to learn about the student's background, needs and what they would like to work on, and then move forward from there.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I could help a student become an independent learner by supplying them with new skills, resources and different learning strategies. Also, I would help them by providing a lot of encouragement and motivation.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help keep a student motivated by keeping lessons fun, using different materials and by using positive reinforcement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would always remain very patient and understanding. I would try using different strategies or visual cues. I would slow things down a bit and try several different techniques.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

For students struggling with reading comprehension I would read the questions with them first, so they know what to look for. Then I would read over the passage twice and help them to look for key words and key ideas. Highlighting the important information can also be helpful.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

When I first start working with a student what has worked the best for me is to come prepared and organized. I like to find out first what type of learner they are and what their strong points and weak points are.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would make the lessons fun and interesting with my sense of humor. Also, I would help them find easy and silly ways to remember things. It's always a good idea to try and make connections using a topic they are interested in.
