What is your teaching philosophy?
Learning could be fun. The main purpose of an education is to have the students enjoy learning the subject.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
It depends. I'd like to get to know the student's targets and goals in order to better plan the future sessions.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
There are many ways in demonstrating an idea or a concept. My favorite method is learning through visualization.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
A lot of concepts in Math/CS can be demonstrated in videos or pictures. We have many options to assist students with learning difficulties.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It depends. Everyone has their own way of effective learning. As a tutor, I'd adjust my teaching style to achieve the best result.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Confidence is important in learning. We can only conquer an obstacle when we believe in ourselves. Therefore, I would start with the simple tasks and progress along the learning path.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I'd start with easier tasks to help the student in developing the basics, and then bring up the difficulties when the students have a solid basis.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I'd take my time and talk to my students to address their needs and goals. Especially with a one-to-one tutoring sessions, it is always good to personalize teaching plans.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
It depends upon the preference of the learner. For example, I like visual tools such as pictures and videos.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would offer my students exercises at the end of each chapter to have them demonstrate that they understand the materials well.
