Tami-Rae
Certified Tutor
As a graduate of LSU with two degrees, one in German and one in French, I would describe myself as a language enthusiast. Not only do I love learning them myself, but I am also dedicated to bringing an understanding of languages to new students. I believe that my three years of tutoring experience coupled with my year studying abroad in Germany make me a qualified tutor, and I look forward to getting the chance to help you learn something new.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student learns differently, and it is my philosophy to tailor each lesson to the student. I prefer cooperative lessons which emphasize student participation, and I try to always make sure he or she stays engaged and understands the lesson.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session with a student should mainly be an exercise in getting to know one another and finding out the student's strengths and weaknesses, both in general learning style and in the specific subject-related knowledge, so that I can then form an effective lesson plan.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
It is important that a student sets goals for herself and takes incremental steps to reach them. I would recommend studying for a short time every day to familiarize oneself with the subject material and to boost the chances of moving that knowledge to long-term memory.
