I am currently a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I tutor for living learning communities while at U of I in college Physics, Chemistry, and German. I also volunteer at a local high school in all levels of the German classes as sometimes a pull out and after school tutor.
I am a very passionate person, and one of my major passions is school and I want to spread that passion around and get people as excited for school as they were when they were younger. The most rewarding thing to me is when someone is able to say "Oh! I get it," and understand something they didn't before.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I believe in building a good rapport with my students and find it very important for creating humorous examples. Students will need to put in work outside of the sessions to keep up progress like any other skills.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I like to vary assessment types with students, frequently "explain it back to me." Students should be able to do previous lessons in impromptu questions during unrelated work.
