Certified Tutor

I am a student at the University of Kansas Medical Center pursuing a joint Bachelors/Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. I have previously completed a Psychology minor and will complete the Bachelor of Occupations Studies degree in May 2015. During my education, I have been involved across my campus in coordinating Alternative Spring Breaks and New Student Orientation. In the past, I worked for the University of Kansas Athletics tutoring student athletes and have also tutored several college students in various writing and literature courses for the past year. I am most passionate about tutoring AP and college level English, Composition, and Literature courses. I also enjoy assisting students with college essays needed for admissions and scholarships, helping them reflect on their experiences and voice their character in unique ways that truly stand out. My main strategy in helping students is not about finding the “right” answer to a prompt or essay question but finding ways for them to communicate their thoughts and ideas so they may truly be understood. I believe every student has strengths that can be used to complete their work while capitalizing upon their own interest, abilities, and goals. Every student deserves a tutor willing to try different strategies to find what works best for them; this is something I always do when working with students! In my spare time, I enjoy doing a variety of workouts and weightlifting, cooking and eating great food, and spending time with my family.
