Delisa
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of Rutgers University where I attended School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree for Biological Sciences in May 2015. I do specialize in tutoring Sciences and Mathematics although I enjoy tutoring other subjects such as History and English. I am a patient and understanding person who absolutely loves to help people which is one of the reasons I love to tutor. I try to go above and beyond in helping my students to truly understand and connect with the subject I am helping them with. I believe it is very important for me to be able to relate with my students, therefore, I reach out to them on a personal level in such a way to understand why they are having difficulty in the subject and explain to them how I would try to overcome any mental block. I also try to understand the best way they learn so that I can approach them in a way that best suits their needs. Every student is different and everyone's needs are just as different. I make sure to understand my students to the best of my abilities and connect with them to be able to give them the academic support and help that they need.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student and see what they need help with. I would try to understand what they think they are not understanding and see what their perspective is on the subject.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe students need reassurance in their skills. I always try to remind them of that. Once they think they can, they will. I also give them tips and tools on what they can do to increase their knowledge on the subject. I try to cater to a student's specific learning needs.
