Certified Tutor

I am very excited to be a part of the 51�Թ��� staff! I love helping people, and I especially enjoy working with children. I have graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in teaching 4th-8th grade math. I am also a certified elementary school teacher. I have always wanted to be a teacher because helping others reach their goals is very rewarding. It is so wonderful to see a student’s face light up when he or she understands something I have explained. I have experience teaching in the classroom through my student teaching. During my student teaching, I taught in a sixth grade math classroom for one year. I am also currently a substitute for PISD.

My hobbies are reading, going to the movies, and spending time with friends and family. I also like listening to music and playing the piano. I took piano lessons for many years. I enjoy going to the mall and bowling, as well.

Math is my strongest subject, and I am able to tutor in algebra, geometry, middle school math, and pre-cal. I like math because I enjoy working with numbers and figuring out problems. I also like how math is very logical and that there is a process to determine every answer. When I am tutoring, I will work with the students to determine what they already know. Then I will explain the parts they don’t know or guide them into discovering how to work the problem. After that, I will provide examples or use similar problems to have them work it out themselves to make sure that they understand the process. I will also have the students return to that same type of problem later on in the session to reinforce what they have learned. Of course, I understand that each student is different and may need different teaching strategies or methods in order to help him or her understand the material. I will be sure to get to know each one of my students to learn the best ways to teach and work with them.
