I hope to help students improve their test-taking skills and to prepare them for future academic success. I'm a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley, studying Economics and Public Health. I love working with others, getting involved on campus, and spending time with family and friends. In high school and freshmen year of college, I was on the Speech Team. Getting to know the speech and debate community has been truly amazing, and I know my passions shine through with everything I do. I also enjoy listening to country music, playing badminton, and writing poems.

My past tutoring experience includes tutoring elementary school ESL students in basic subjects for 4 years in high school and tutoring spanish in high school. My friends describe me as bubbly, easygoing, ambitious, patient, and caring. Please reach out to me if you have any questions, or if you're looking for a trustworthy tutor! Good luck!

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that practice makes perfect, and that every student is capable of testing to reflect their best ability.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session, I would get to know that student's goals and study habits to form a comprehensive, successful test-preparation plan.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Form a test-prep game plan to follow and teach good testing strategies.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Offer encouragement and explain the benefits of testing well.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Move onto the rest of the subjects and come back to the concept of difficulty to spend more time on it.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Advise them to read more independently, especially from different sources of literature.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Listen patiently, explain things carefully and observe the students' comprehension to figure out how they learn best.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Teach the material with different methods and express personal enthusiasm.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Ask probing questions and also ask questions that require you to apply the knowledge learned in a way different from how it was taught.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Praise, encouragement, and quantitatively measure progress.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Look at past test scores, personal examinations, and have them explain how they feel about the subject.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I will spend more/less time on a particular subject, tutor from a book or pre-set questions, or make up my own questions in a way that fits their learning style.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I would use example problems (from old sample test questions) and other test-prep material.
