Tonight the student and I studied for his Spanish exam together. First we went over the basics of regular AR/ER conjugated verbs. We also discussed and irregular verbs that would be on his exam. Then we studied the vocabulary words. The student seems to perform best when test using verbal and auditory methods.

This session we spent preparing for the student's upcoming test. Overall I think it went pretty well. He knows the material but he needs to keep practicing with completing the square for solving quadratics. He understands what to do but sometimes gets stuck because he can't really remember what to do next. It's just one of those things that can bog you down. We will work on that in future sessions.

Tutoring review by Tashnin in Texas City, TX
The concepts that we covered was mostly about radicals, exponential growth, arithmetic and geometric problems. The student was struggling in exponential growth, arithmetic, and geometric problems. The student's attitude was receptive in this session. I included strategies or study skills in this session. I also left him with some extra practice problems. I saw his test scores and he is progressing.

Tutoring review by James in Texas City, TX
We reviewed the fraction problems that I sent Thursday night for the student to work on. He got most of the problems correct, and he seems to understand the mistakes he made. I gave him two practice quizzes in preparation for his test on Tuesday. The first quiz he got a 13/20 on while the second he improved to a 19.5/20, so I think he is making progress. It's really important that he takes his time with the work and checks his work before turning it in. When he checks his work, he catches the mistakes from his first attempt at the problem. When he slows down, he really understands the material so we are going to focus a little on study skills and discipline during the next sessions. He is a great student and very capable of learning the material. I have no doubt that we are going to raise his understanding of the material and thus his grades.

Today, the student and I worked on some basic spelling concepts, incorporating words and phrases from many of his favorite hobbies and games. He demonstrated significant interest in learning and reading topics of his choosing. He and I completed the session reading some excerpts and discussing the material from a comprehension perspective. Overall, it was another productive day!

Tutoring review by Katherine in Texas City, TX
Today the student worked on a series of questions based on an article about "Life Values." He had read the article in class that day. We read the article together, and as we went through it I asked him questions to check his comprehension. Then we spent the rest of the session answering questions about the article. With encouragement he was able to write several sentences per answer. At the end of the session, I asked him what the difference was between his reading of the article and when we did it together. He said that when he read it he just skimmed it, but when we read it together he had to "stop and think about it."
