The student and I worked on her math homework and talked about studying for finals. We worked a bit on English also.

The student and I covered matrix multiplication and addition, as well as reduced row echelon form to solve systems of equations. Overall it was a very good review session.

Today, we began a review of chapter one in early preparation of the final exam which encompasses the entirety of the text as we are nearing the final unit. I want to begin jogging her memory so that she does not feel overwhelmed when it comes time for the exam. We practiced writing skills through open book quick writes. We discussed grades and progress (which she is progressing wonderfully and continues to show dedication and growth). She has shown advancement in her presentations and projects as well in her verbal presentations. I have begun assigning side research topics to help her hone her critical thinking and research skills. I challenged her to think beyond the text and formulate questions. She was assigned to research the Railway system. We worked with Life of Pi and an essay outline. She was assigned to finish the outline and was given reading homework.

The student had a practice problem sheet that he had trouble finishing because the majority of the questions were word problems. I was able to explain the problems and walked him through step by step. He understood the concepts and felt more comfortable about word problems after the session. During the session he made some minor mistakes, but I feel he needs more practice converting quadratic formulas into vertex form.

The student worked on math practice problems, studied for a social studies test, and reviewed her English notes.

We covered the cardiovascular system in this session. The student did very well and was able to name the four chambers and the major veins and arteries after a little practice. He could also properly show the direction of blood flow, and could differentiate between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. We also covered veins, arteries and capillaries, which he was able to recognize and understood their function.
