During this session we went over both algebra 2 and chemistry. In algebra we looked at questions mostly dealing with exponential rules and in chemistry we looked at questions that dealt with the rules of significant figures. Overall this session went well.

Tutoring review by Christopher in Albany, NY
We had one brief read aloud to go over harder words from a book she's reading in her spare time. I asked her to write a brief paragraph about what we read about. The main concentration was math and execution. I asked her to write her multiplication tables in as little time as she could (i.e.. 2x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 9x tables in less than 4 minutes). She had a high percentage correct, but I would like to see her time go down. We had a brief lesson on word problems.

Tutoring review by Leah in Albany, NY
We talked out the student's ideas regarding the policy suggestion of financial literacy and worked through the mechanics of what a policy memo entails. We worked through each of the points she wanted to make and structured each paragraph to ensure that the flow of ideas also followed the required format. We also did a little bit of research together to make sure that the policy suggestion fit into the current education system/ model and that it was addressed to the relevant person. At the end of the session I agreed to look over her final draft and give feedback/ edits before she submitted. In this feedback I made a few suggestions to tighten up the sentence structure/ flow, helped with sign posting and bringing it back to the overall thesis, and made suggestions where references/ outside research and evidence could be incorporated.

Tutoring review by Griffin in Albany, NY
Today the student worked through her homework, which covered all previous sections in review for her test on Friday. She was, as usual, great to work with - she works hard on every problem, but also isn't afraid to take a step back to try and understand the bigger picture. She occasionally makes a simple mistake, but she is also getting better at avoiding these. I wish her luck on her upcoming test, and I'm confident she will perform well.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Albany, NY
In today's session, the student completed extra credit review packets for both his Chemistry and Physics classes. Our focus during his fall break will be to go back to the beginning for each of his science classes so he can get even more review with the material. This also should help him study for pre-comp exams.

Tutoring review by Collin in Albany, NY
I thought the session went very well. The student is a very bright student, with great potential to do very well on the exam. We touched on every subject on the assessment exam, except the quantitative section. He is very strong in math and logical reasoning. The only goal there is to speed up the process a bit. Tomorrow, we will go over some strategies for narrowing down answers more quickly. His greatest potential for growth is in the verbal section. I think he has a great sense for the connotation of language. We will build on his confidence and his knowledge of word building blocks, which will allow him to breeze through this section. He was very responsive. He is on the quieter side, but I have a feeling he will grow more verbal and develop his skills in expressing his own process and the subject matter. I left him with a list of prefixes to study. I asked him to begin looking at the flashcards on test prep site and commit to a short amount of reading intended for an advanced readership. I recommended online articles, which would allow him to access definitions easily and learn new words. I look forward to working with him again.
