Hi there, I'm John. For the past 6 years I have been teaching at the University of Houston in the Political Science department. Although I spend most of my time working with college students, for the previous 8 summers I have worked at a private school in Austin, TX, working with students ranging in age from 8 to 15. I have helped younger students with everything from grammar and vocabulary building, to SAT Prep and the writing of college essays. I chose education as a career path because I love learning and believe that my primary purpose is to help others and to be the best person that I can be. Teaching allows me to accomplish all of these goals, and it is my hope to pass on this same enthusiasm and optimism to all of my students. Whether it is grammar and writing, or social studies and college preparation, I aim to help students improve in whatever subject they are working in, and to have fun doing it.

Hobbies

I have several interests which keep me fairly busy during the week. I love reading, and generally try to read a work of fiction, a work of history, and a contemporary social analysis at a time. My love of reading has also sparked an interest in writing, as I have written political and philosophical essays, to creative short stories. Lastly, I enjoy playing sports and play ice hockey, tennis, and softball on a weekly basis.
