I have always had an interest in how the world works, especially living things. That is what drove me to become interested in science and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, and now I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Immunology at Duke University focused on studying how viruses can affect our immune system. As I became further trained in my career to be a college professor, I noticed that scientists do not always have the best approach to teaching and inspiring the next generation. Therefore, with over eight years of tutoring experience and through the College Teaching Program at Duke University, I have gained skills and experience in teaching and tutoring students in science using a student-focused personalized learning approach. We do not learn in the same way, but once we know what works for us, the possibilities are endless for knowledge.
I take a student-centered approach to tutoring. Upon our first session, I will ask you how you learn, and what is your learning style. From there we can discuss your goals for tutoring, whether you just want one session to brush up on a specific subject, or if you would like to work with me over the duration of your course or to meet a specific goal. From there, we can work together to create study habits and work on how to retain concepts and information to reach your learning goals. I will also help you with coursework and study for benchmarks and exams. If your goals are focused on writing a report, grant proposal, or research paper, I can help with organizing a writing schedule, how to find sources, and how to cater your writing to your specific audience. I accept students ranging from high school (9th-12th) to undergraduate students. Some graduate student tutoring is available upon request for specific subjects.
