Certified Tutor

I studied physics and studio art at Kenyon College as an undergraduate, and most recently astrophysics as a post-bacc student at Columbia University. I can help with anything physics related; classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, astronomy, E&M, etc. I am also happy to help out with math! Calculus I-VI, geometry, linear algebra are all subjects I can teach. As an undergraduate I tutored pre-med students, and during my time at Columbia I tutored high school students, both in physics. I also spent two years teaching painting and drawing at the Community College of Philadelphia. I love teaching some of the less intuitive subjects in physics such as special relativity and quantum mechanics, but have most experience teaching newtonian high school concepts. I am a visual learner and tend to teach visually using diagrams, graphs and graphics. I think it is important to develop intuition in physics beyond following laid out steps in order to become intellectually flexible and tackle a variety of problems. As a teacher and tutor however, I try to understand my students learning style which might be less visual and more math forward and work from there.

All the best,
Matt
