My three cornerstone priciples as a tutor are that lessons must always be engaging, accessible, and of clear practical use to the learner.
I follow a student-centred approach, constantly assessing my learner's needs and development. No two learners are the same, and I am careful to tailor my learning plans to the specific requirements and learning styles of each student.
There are many obstacles that slow down the learning process. Identifying the particular obstacle that is stunting progress is important, and involves clear two-way communication between myself and the learner in question.
I love to teach English Literature and Language in all its many forms and guises. Be it a novel, a poem, a biography, a play - if it's Literature, or anything involving language, I'll break it down into digestible chunks for my learners and start interesting discussions. Most importantly, I'll pass on my own enthusiam for language and the endless creativity of fiction!
I also have a lot of experience teaching English as a Second Language, and English for SEN students. Both of these areas I find very rewarding, and love seeing my students make tangible progress towards their learning goals.
I studied English at Oxford Univeristy, so I'm happy teaching highly able students. But I also love working with absolute beginners, young learners, and just about everyone else! As long as you have an interest in learning, I'm ready and willing to help you achieve.
Above all, I like the human interaction at the heart of teaching and learning. People are social by nature, I think, and it's a brilliant feeling when I can play a small but significant role in another person's future.

I have so many interests and hobbies! Let's start with movies - I'm a little obsessed! Comedies, action films, sci-fi...you name it, I'll watch it and then want to talk about it for hours! I also love football (soccer for those outside the UK!) - my favourite team is the mighty Arsenal, kings of North London! But I don't spend ALL my time in front of a screen! I like to run, and climb things, and hike the longest, toughest, most challenging trails I can find. When I can't go on an activity-filled adventure, you'll find me in the nearest gym working up a sweat! My other passions are reading novels, writing creatively, watching improv and theatre, and cooking. The last of those is a relatively new hobby but I love it! In fact, I cook a new recipe every Sunday evening, almost without fail! Last week it was Moroccan tagine, and (even if I do say so myself) it was incredible!
