Amy

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of USF, the St Pete Campus in sunny Florida. My major was English Literature with a focus in Writing. I have always believed that education provides knowledge that can open up new doors of opportunity, and I enjoy studying history, reading and writing even in my free time. This passion for learning naturally led me to a career of teaching for six years. I have taught High School and Middle school English Language Arts, AVID (a college readiness, study skills and organization course) and Yearbook for various grades. I am a fully certified Florida ELA teacher and certified in ESOL as well. I have extensive experience teaching English Learners and also working with ESE students. My third-year teaching, I began tutoring Elementary students and have worked with a dozen children, mostly of friends and family members, one-on-one for the past three years. I love seeing how the extra support that one-on-one tutoring provides can help children who were struggling, start thriving. The joy in watching students of mine grasp a concept they thought was too difficult, as well as, allowing my creativity to design lessons that are more fun and engaging, and student led, so students of all ages can discover the joy in learning is why I love teaching and tutoring. The areas of my expertise are reading comprehension, writing (especially Essays - my favorite), history and building study habits and organization skills, as well as helping ESE and ESOL students. I also have extensive experience with Test Prep, and have taken the SAT's, GRE and many Professional certification tests, and I am qualified to help others study and prepare for important exams.
