Emily

Certified Tutor

I am a reading/writing tutor and tutor supervisor with over 12 years of experience executing and assessing implementation of online writing pedagogy. Academically, I hold a bachelor's degree in art and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in learning disabilities. With certification applicable to K-12 settings, I taught fifth through sixth grade students with learning and emotional disabilities before transitioning to a remote position so I could effectively care for my own neurodivergent child while continuing to interact with learners in a meaningful way.

In the context of the physical classroom, online tutoring, and academic editing contracts, I have cultivated the ability to instruct and collaborate with learners of varying ability and diverse characteristics. Daily, I apply best practice to provide tutoring for developmental to graduate-level students working across disciplines. Together, we develop strategies for reading, writing, research and documentation, career materials development, executive functioning, stress management, and study skills to support individual goals attainment.

Realizing that literacy drives the human experience, I find it my mission to foster foundational growth in individuals seeking positive life outcomes. While I have written and edited graduate-level and commercial copy and am fluent in academic formatting styles including APA and MLA, my heart lies in supporting neurodivergent and anxious learners, many of whom struggle to define and realize their goals. My philosophy of education is that everyone can learn and neurodiversity should be respected and nurtured. With my always-learning attitude, I feel fortunate to learn continuously from my students.
