I am currently pursuing an MS in Media Management at The New School with a focus on creative production, art direction and project management (see my portfolio website, Shogun Productions PhD). I have an MPhil and PhD in Latin American, Iberian and Latino Studies from The CUNY Graduate Center. As an undergraduate, I completed a dual-major BA in Art History and Spanish, with minors in History, Gender Studies and Classical and Medieval Studies.
Interdisciplinary pedagogy informs my professional experience as an educator, creative academic researcher and writer, and media content project manager. I have taught Latin American Studies, World Literature Classics, Gender & Queer Studies, Film Studies, Spanish and Writing at the college level for eleven years. Art History--particularly Modern and Contemporary Art--has always been inseparable from my teaching curriculum in Latin American Studies. Additionally, I am an innovative academic researcher and writer with diverse interests, from Early Modern Ibero-American Transatlantic Studies to Korean TV dramas. Complementing my teaching background is my ability to turn abstract concepts into tangible multimedia content for experts, students and the general public, no matter where they are in the world. I write, direct and lecture on Latinx Gender History on my YouTube Channel, Shogun Productions. Inspired by my LAS150: Latin American Female Political Leadership in the Republican Era course at Pace University, the 27-episode "Latin American Divas" video course democratizes my original research so anyone can learn. The videos successfully amplified classroom instruction and homework assignments, yielding a 20% increase in class participation, and higher grades over three years. The Why Do We Read This? literature and pop culture podcast, which I co-hosted from September 2019 to March 2020, grew from World Literature lesson plans at Baruch College. The 14 episodes I contributed to have served as a learning aide since 2019 (ENG2800/ENG2850). Lastly, my LAS101: Introduction to Latin American Studies lesson plans at Pace University inspired a book chapter, "The Dissident Cosmos: The Andean World Across Cultural Productions, 1400-2017," in Latin America in the World, published by Routledge Press in April 2020. My present studies in Media Management represent a newfound passion for content production, interpretation, transmission, and collaboration in Transmedia and Digital Storytelling.
I am committed to access, equity and inclusion in my approach to content creation and audience engagement. My strong written and verbal skills, in both Spanish and English, highlight my interests and abilities in organization, team-building, and digital platform administration at the service of learning, engagement and public programming.
