Hello! I am an artist, professional graphic designer, and arts educator. I have in-person and remote teaching and tutoring experience with elementary students, teens, and adults.

What are your tutoring needs and interests?
-To learn new art materials and techniques?
-To prep for an A.P. exam?
-To build and edit your art portfolio for a school application?
-To get feedback on your artwork?
-To write an artist statement for an art show or contest?
-To learn how to use graphic design software?
-To just to have fun making something with your hands?!

I will tailor the topics, materials, and activities in our sessions specifically to your learning needs and goals!

I thrive on sharing my love of art and design with others. For the past couple of years I was the Visual Art Teacher and curriculum developer at a public elementary school with 900+ students. I created fun and challenging art lessons and activities and produced engaging virtual classes, video demonstrations, and multimedia slideshows for in-person and remote learners.

I am well versed in art and design history studies, as well as contemporary art and artist practices. I also have extensive training in fine arts including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography.

I received my Master of Arts in Art Education from NYU, a program which focused on teaching art and media studies through a social justice lens. During my graduate program, my fieldwork included teaching visual art to high school students as well as advising seniors on their final thesis projects. I also had the opportunity to teach NYU Visionary Studios, a Saturday art workshop for teens, encouraging students to explore and engage deeply with a social theme and to use multidisciplinary approaches to respond visually in the media of their choice. Additionally, I led fine-arts workshops for graduate students.

In addition to being a passionate educator, I also have years of professional experience as a digital artistdesigning magazines, books, posters, logos, and marketing materials for well-known clients. I am an expert with Adobe Creative suite as well as other current software and classroom technology. My experience working at top publications like Seventeen Magazine, Redbook, and Rolling Stone as well as designing marketing content for clients like Verizon, Calvin Klein, and Under Armour makes me uniquely qualified to teach students who are embarking on their own design careers.

I am also CELTA certified (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), and have experience teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Here is feedback from my former principal:

"Joining our school in the Spring of 2020, Megan was essentially asked to create a whole new way of teaching art, and she met the challenge with great professionalism. She used her tech-savvy to produce engaging virtual classes, video demonstrations, and multimedia slideshows for remote learners. And she managed to give all of our students rich studio art experiences. I enjoyed sitting in on Megan's lessons which were well-planned, incorporated student- choice, and were thoughtfully differentiated. Her lower elementary classes included songs, read-alouds, games, and movement activities. And for our upper-elementary students, she designed challenging and fun unitslike how to curate and plan your own mini art exhibition. She also did a great job aligning her lessons with our school's social-emotional and social justice initiatives. I always received a lot of positive feedback from students and parents about Megan's art classes."
