Certified Tutor

I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, English Language Arts and a Minor is Communication Studies. I have experience working with students from a variety of different backgrounds and expertise. I have worked with students between the ages of eleven and eighteen, ranging from standard level to Advanced Placement. I am passionate about English and Communication (as a discipline) because I believe language is the great equalizer. As such, my teaching style is heavily dependent on my students' participation in discussions and creative assignments. The ability to clearly convey one's thoughts, both verbally and textually, is the main focus of my instructional goals. With that in mind, I teach and tutor students in persuasive, argumentative, and informative writing and speech. I focus on research (both methods and integration), as a student's writing style is independent from their ability to support their thesis. I am also able to tutor and support students on stylistic writing choices (tone, mood, literary & rhetorical devices, etc.), but prefer to teach exemplary evidence-based writing.
I love to teach. Even greater, I love to empower. I believe that every student deserves to be heard, and that writing and speech gives students a platform to accomplish just that. Communication is a transferable skill that applies to all facets in life. Mastering this skill will advance students' achievements regardless of which path they choose to take.
