I am passionate about helping students because I love to learn and share in ideas. "Teaching" others and gaining their perspective is like "relearning" something and enjoying that "ah ha" moment all over again.
I have worked with students of all ages and abilities, including special needs. I have sponsored and assisted foreign exchange students, collaborated with other artists and volunteers through community theatre, and saw my own small business transition to a not-for-profit arts organization.
I attended Xavier University on a full academic scholarship where I attained a BFA with a concentration in Drawing and Painting. I also studied classical dance from a German ballerina through a long teaching apprenticeship. I have always believed that we learn best by doing. As a lifelong learner I have entered into jobs and projects where I could learn new skills. I have been a camp counselor and cook, a classical ballet instructor and choreographer, a small business owner, self-marketer, website blogger, graphic designer, a costume designer, and wardrobe mistress, a cutter and stitcher for a small clothing design company, a director for community theatre, an art teacher, an aide for middle school students, an after school aide for elementary school students, a supermarket caterer and deli worker, an organizational aide, landscape worker, a house flipper, and a home health aide. All of this experience has prepared me for my most important career as devoted wife and a proud mother of two.
Currently I tutor English/ reading, writing, studio arts, design, and organization/ study hacks. I don't have a particular favorite subject as my true passion is education and how we best learn new skills and information. I love to gain new and alternative perspectives and learn about other cultures by visiting with people whose mother tongue is something other than English. I love travel, stories of all kinds, live theatre, and the art of conversation.
