Certified Tutor

My name is Leeza Kravchenko, and I am thrilled to support learners on the 51Թ platform! I am a recent graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT where I majored in Psychology and minored in Applied Data Analysis. I have experience working with students of all ages in reading, math, and computational concepts.

An ardent theatre enthusiast, my first exposure to tutoring came as a teaching assistant for a local children's acting company; while there, I led primary school students in collaborative and creative kinesthetic activities. I strongly believe one of the best ways to learn is through play, something I support on the daily as an instructor for an elementary after-school coding program; through creating their own videogames, kids are taught fundamental coding principles while getting to express their creativity in a hands on way.

The bulk of my experience comes from three years of tutoring at the Wesleyan Quantitative Analysis Center, where I supported a very diverse group of students from a wide array of academic disciplines in R and Stata. Through this and my undergraduate Course Assisting positions in a Data Journalism and Media Analysis classes, I feel quite comfortable working with students of all levels on both grasping analytic concepts and articulating their thinking. The summer of 2019, I served as a Summer Program Instructor for a New York Girls Who Code site, where I taught JavaScript/HTML/CSS and Python to a high school aged group. Leading a classroom of twenty passionate students just starting on their coding journey proved to be an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and I am excited to continue helping other students through their academic process!

While many of my teaching experiences are coding based, I also am a great resource for improving writing skills. Being able to communicate well is an essential skill across disciplines, and through my academic work I gained ample experience with persuasive writing and presentation strategies. As someone who learned English at age ten, I know how frustrating this language's quirks can really be -- so I am always happy to help people working to master it!
