I moved to the United States in September 2013. After completing five months of an intensive English program, I was proficient and ready to enter college. From the beginning, my academic course work was my priority, however I wanted to enrich and diversify my college experience, so I became a supplemental instruction leader and a volunteer. Supplemental Instruction is program which allows previous students who did well in the class to lead peer-assisted study groups for students who are currently enrolled in the same class. To work as a supplemental instruction leader, I had to demonstrate strong leadership skills as well as astonishing academic background. At the beginning of each semester, I would make a speech in front the class to introduce myself, share my experience in that specific class, and give them advice on how to pass the class. As a supplemental instruction leader I would go to a designated class write notes and then essentially make lesson plans and reteach the material to students and supplement their learning. I seized the opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills as well my interpersonal skills. Being a Supplemental Instructor leader polished my listening ability which made me more attentive to students' needs and allowed me to spend more time with them during our daily study sessions that were held either before or after classes. I was able to learn their weaknesses as well as their strengths, which made it that much easier to help them. I had students of all backgrounds and career aspirations. I wanted my students to be successful; therefore, I devoted the most time to them. The results positively correlated with the amount of time they invested in my study session
