Certified Tutor

I hold bachelors degrees in History and English from Spring Hill College and a Masters degree in English from Duquesne University, and in the fall will be beginning my PhD in English at the University of Alabama. During my time at Spring Hill, I served as one of the school's history tutors, covering subjects from Europe in the Era of the World Wars to The Global 60s. At Duquesne, I served as the online writing center consultant; I also have a year's experience teaching introductory English courses to college freshmen. As a scholar, my academic areas of interest are Shakespeare, early modern drama, and the French Revolution, although I have a strong background in the history and literature of other time periods. Currently, I tutor English literature, essay writing and editing, and AP European History, and am equally passionate about all of these. As a tutor, my goal is for students to more fully engage with their material, and to have a hands-on experience that allows them to feel more deeply connected to what they study. I especially love using different forms of media, such as comics, videos, and memes, to help students grasp complicated concepts or events. I also try to make texts - especially Shakespeare - more accessible to students; I know how difficult the language can be, and I do my best to make it fun and exciting. In my spare time, I love to read, both fiction and non-fiction, and hang out with my friends. You can also catch me listening to Fall Out Boy or Panic! at the Disco.
