Certified Tutor

I have spent most of my professional life teaching and tutoring the sciences for students from high school through college age. I got my BA in Biology (Univ. of Kansas), and my MS in Science Education (Wichita State Univ.), and proceeded to teach hundreds of students biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry and physics in public Kansas high schools over a 10 year career. A second career (23 years) in the pharmaceutical industry provided me with countless hours of learning about public speaking as well as diseases and their pharmaceutical treatments. I retired from the pharmaceutical industry in 2010 and started teaching as an adjunct human physiology instructor at a local community college and did this for 10 years. Finally, I began online tutoring for 51Թ a few years ago and have focused my efforts with over 60 students (and counting) in the two areas that I feel interest me the most and where I have the most experience: anatomy and physiology, and public speaking. I have a passion for learning and sharing my learning with others about the human body, particularly how things work-that is, its physiology. I have encountered many students who have become intimidated and discouraged by their anatomy and physiology instructors and coursework. My goal is to help students understand how to be more successful in their approach to their particular course, and to grow in understanding of how the information they are studying applies to their own bodies. I particularly like to use questions to help students determine what they are , and are not, understanding about their coursework. Though I consider tutoring as enjoyable as any of my hobbies, when I'm not tutoring I'm usually hiking, walking with my dogs, taking care of my chickens, enjoying nature and nature photography, or reading.
