Certified Tutor

My name is Luis, I'm currently enrolled at Miami Dade College and I'm almost done with my A.A in the math field. I'm studying to be a mathematician and hopefully in the Spring 2018 I'll be transferring to Florida International University to pursue my dream of becoming a financial advisor or a College professor. When it comes to my personality I love being talkative and inspirational in order to transmit confidence to my students.

Originally from Cuba, I gained a solid background in mathematics as a student there, as the level of education there has high standards. Eventually emigrating to the United States, I became a student at Miami Dade College, where I began a career in the medical field, until I realized my true love was in mathematics, not the medical sciences. My dream is to earn a degree in mathematics to eventually work in actuarial science, a discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries and professions. While, I enjoy the sciences, mathematics is my passion and what I'm best at. I also like the idea of one day teaching mathematics as a professor at the college level.

Thanks to the knowledge gained in my studies in Cuba, I have been able to help and tutor several of my peers within the math classes I was taking, both at my new high school here in the States, and eventually when I moved on to college. In 2014 I started at Miami Dade College where I successfully completed all math and statistics courses required to enter the program for the degree I will be seeking. I truly enjoy working with other students. I am able to pinpoint the struggles and assist in strengthening skill in the subject and addressing the specific need of the student. Each student is different, and tutoring sessions would be tailored to the individual according to that student's needs and goals. I specialize in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and all elementary-level math.

I generally can schedule sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for in-person tutoring. I look forward to helping as many students I can reach their educational goals and gain a more positive attitude toward mathematics.
