Certified Tutor

I've been drawn to teaching since high school, when I first began tutoring ESL students and assisting in a freshman math class. After graduating from the IB program, I moved from my home state of Colorado to Walla Walla WA where I spent the next four years studying at Whitman College. Whitman provided me with many opportunities to hone my teaching skills. I was employed as a student academic adviser, a writing fellow, and a resident assistant for the Spanish-speaking interest house on campus. I also continued to tutor ESL, and even interned in Boston for a summer where I gave individualized instruction to ESL clients preparing for the United States Citizenship Test. After graduating, I had the incredible opportunity to teach English in a small, coastal town in Spain for a year. I worked in an elementary school with pre-K through 6th grade students. I also privately tutored adult and high school clients.

While I still miss being able to walk to the ocean from my apartment, I was happy to move to the Twin Cities for graduate school the following year. My experience teaching both English and Spanish confirmed my fascination with language; I am half-way through an MA in linguistics at the University of Minnesota. This past year, I have tutored three elementary and middle school students, particularly focusing on math skills. I also worked as a teaching assistant for an Introduction to Linguistics course at the University of Minnesota and just finished teaching writing for an ESL college-preparatory program for incoming international students at the University of MN, Morris.

I am thankful for the wealth of different teaching experiences that I have had, and each one has led me to grow as a teacher and an individual. I am excited to learn about your goals and come up with a plan that will enable you to meet them with confidence.
