Certified Tutor

At the age of 9, I was called to teach because my younger brother was struggling with reading and math concepts at his school. I was further inspired by my own Language Arts and Visual Art teachers at my public middle and high schools. Patience, focus, positivity, and grit are qualities I possess that work hand-in-hand with the teaching career.

The past 17 years, I have earned a Masters degree and am a National Board Certified teacher, all while teaching in public schools grades K-12. Much of my experience is in middle school Language Arts, where my personality and subject knowledge come in handy. The past 6 years I have been teaching high school where I have tutored for standardized testing with the goal of increasing test scores. I currently enjoy teaching all levels of high school English and Art.

I believe in focusing on the objective on hand while treating every student as an individual. Extensive knowledge and high test scores are worthless if the teacher cannot impart that knowledge on the student. I do this using my sense of humor, mnemonic devices, and being relatable which makes learning interesting and relevant. Students have told me I am kind, approachable, and encourage a sense of openness in the classroom. I have seen firsthand, over and over, how beneficial one-on-one tutoring is to a student, and am excited to share that experience with you.

In my free time, you can find me at the dog park with my two dogs, attending band concerts of my two middle school children, and making pottery in my backyard studio. I participate in the empty bowls project annually, which raises money for homeless individuals through pottery.
