Certified Tutor
I have been an educator for a few years now. I have taught middle school science, social studies, and lead reading intervention. My first time tutoring was a couple years ago where I privately tutored a child during my clinical for my reading specialist certification. Currently I teach Science and Social Studies in an inner-city middle school in St. Louis. I also lead English and math intervention each week for my middle school students. I am very dedicated to the achievement of youth and will work diligently to make sure students are successful.

What is your teaching philosophy?
All students can learn with a champion in their corner.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session, my focus is getting to know the student as a person to better understand them. It is crucial to build a background with a child because it establishes trust. A student cannot learn much from someone they do not trust because the right questions will not be asked. I need my client to know I am for them before all else. During a first session, if the opportunity presents itself, I would also try to take that opportunity to assess some background knowledge.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Words of encouragement and making things familiar for a student are great ways of motivating students.
