What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to leave every student understanding what they don't, and to have them making better grades with their homework and on tests.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Find out what the student knows, what they do not know and the teaching style that works for them.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teach them how to use what they know to figure out what they don't know.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Give them praises along the way as they attain the information.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Break it down into smaller sections and tackle the understanding there, and then work our way to the whole passage.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Talking to them to see what they need to know and what they want to achieve.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Make it interesting for them so that they will want to learn the information.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Give the student practice problems to make sure they understand it, and try the same problem in various different ways to make sure they won't be confused when the problem is presented in a different way.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By helping them understand and make it seem less intimidating to them.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Based on the knowledge that they already have with the subject and what they do not know.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Based on the learning style that helps them learn the best.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Visuals by way of drawings, or with tangible items and the notes that the students may have, along with notes I may have.
