I am a recent graduate of Muhlenberg College. I have a BA in Theater with a minor in political science and am currently live in New York on the upper east side, while pursuing an acting career.
Throughout my four years in college I took part in numerous activities that have helped shape me into a caring and capable tutor.
When I was a freshman in college I was lucky enough to travel to Ghana and teach music and reading at a private school in a village called Ajumako. During my two weeks at this school I taught a music class to 7th and 8th graders and individually tutored elementary school students in reading. This experience helped me to understand the importance of having patience with students that might learn a little differently, or have been previously discouraged from learning.
My junior year in college I took two semesters to travel outside of my school and study. During the fall semester I traveled to London and attended Goldsmith's University, where I studied Theater and Political Science. In my spring semester I traveled to Washington D.C. and took part in a semester long program where I interned during the day for Discovery Theater at the Smithsonian, and took political science classes at night. Discovery Theater is the Smithsonian's only children's theater, and their goal is to incorporate education of different museum exhibits into their monthly productions, along with bringing in outside educational performing artists for children. While working at Discovery Theater I was able to work hands on with children, in addition to creating learning guides that teachers would bring into their classrooms after performances.
My love for Theater and the arts has strongly influenced my teaching style. I believe that not everyone learns the same way, and that all students should be given the opportunity to try out different tools until something finally clicks.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that all students learn differently, and a teacher is there to figure out what learning style best fits the student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would want to hear about what they think of school, specifically the subject that they are struggling in, and make a list of goals for our lessons.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by helping them become genuinely interested in the subject they are struggling in. In addition, I believe that once students find their own learning style, they are much more likely to be able to learn independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by giving them reasonable goals that can be reached each session. This way the student can actually see their improvement each week.
