What is your teaching philosophy?
I love working together and trying to keep the student involved in the learning process.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
As a tutor, you are able to give students the fundamentals and teach them how to use that knowledge to study and add the new things they learn to what they already know.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I feel that, as a tutor, you must be flexible and come up with innovative ways to help your students. As a result, if one method doesn't work, you can try something else.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I like going through the process of reading with them and letting them explain what they understand from it step by step, guiding them to better understand of what is going on.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
It all about making learning fun and finding a way to connect it to something they enjoy.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I like having students repeat what we have discussed to see if they comprehended what we have studied.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
You start with small milestones and motivate them through the process.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By giving them a quick assessment of the subject and seeing where they are struggling in addition to asking them what they feel is their weakest area.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I feel that this is key to tutoring, because if you aren't flexible with your teaching methods, you will struggle helping students.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I like using books for content, creating questions, and study material for students, as needed.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I feel first sessions should be used to build comfort with students and getting to know one another.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I like talking to them and seeing what they would like to do and how we can work together to improve their educational experience.
