Certified Tutor

Teaching, especially tutoring, allows the student and the teacher to grow academically and professionally. As an instructor, nothing beats a student's face when he or she conquers something challenging. The special bond and shared success found in tutoring is the reason I am so passionate about teaching and continue to do it.
In addition to my passion and dedication to educate students of all communities, I also have experience helping students academically and athletically. I am a recent graduate of Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Sociology. In high school, I tutored peers and underclassmen in geometry, calculus, and chemistry. At Bowdoin College, I was a laboratory assistant for the Introductory Chemistry Course. In this position, I became comfortable relaying the core concepts of the subject at an advanced level. I also have a solid understanding of the material due to my completion of collegiate level courses such as organic and physical chemistry. Through these experiences, I discovered my preferred teaching style, which is to be positive while always trying to challenge the student. I like to be methodical and have a plan in mind of how to clearly communicate the subject matter at hand.
Along with the excellent education at Bowdoin, I also developed my interpersonal skills, which I can apply to the development of a student's knowledge and proficiency in the classroom. As a member of the Bowdoin Residential Life Staff, I developed valuable knowledge about how to engage in challenging conversations with my peers about subjects pertaining to privilege. The skills of being able to effectively communicate with and carefully listen to your peers are the key to successful tutoring. Every student is different and my experiences as a student-leader prepared me to take an open-minded approach to each student's needs.
Lastly, my time devoted to the pool, either as an instructor or athlete, has significantly shaped who I am today. I am a motivated person who is dedicated and passionate about what he loves to do, one of which is to teach. The ability to improve and ultimately succeed, whether in the classroom or in athletics, is a joy every student should be able to obtain. My success and experiences have led me to become an eager person ready to share my knowledge and learn about others' experiences.
