Majority of my students start to see improvement within the first few weeks. I am patient and passionate about tutoring, and I waste no time in helping my students to become confident and bold. I will do whatever it takes to make sure that my student is confident in the subject area. It is my duty to make sure that my students own their materials. What is your teaching philosophy?
Learning is a systematic journey filled with ups and downs. It is not easy, but it is certainly rewarding. The right teacher or tutor, in conjunction with a determined student, makes learning rich.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Play an icebreaker so that my student and I can get to know each other. There is no point in learning under tension. Icebreakers are a cool way of letting loose.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Developing a systematic study plan for my student, and gradually guiding them into trusting themselves and his or her intellect.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Plenty of incentives and encouragement. I will also constantly show my student how a particular subject has helped make life easier.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Use familiar terms and scenarios to explain the concept over again through problem based learning.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Encourage them to break the problem down into simpler forms by replacing certain parts of the problem with familiar names or terms.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I use problem based learning to encourage critical thinking.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By showing them the benefits of the subject.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I make the student explain the concept, in their own words, to me. If they cannot explain it, then they do not understand.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Through lots of practice both with me and independently. Also by encouraging students to identify their own errors and trusting themselves.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By asking questions, and giving them a diagnostic test.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
My tutoring focuses on the learning styles of my students.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Textbooks, pens, pencils, and paper.
