Hello! I am an Atmospheric Science professional with an academic background in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. I have a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Michigan Technological University and a B.S. in Molecular Biology and Biophysics from Benedictine University. Between my two degrees I have taken an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Between coursework and labwork, I have a strong foundation across the physical sciences.
As a teacher and a tutor, I feel that the understanding of the topic and the answers are already within the student waiting to be revealed and nurtured. I believe anyone can find success in academia, especially the sciences and mathematics. My usual approach includes asking questions rather than giving answers and explaining why every step is taken when solving a problem; this creates adaptation and independence rather. True success in a student is not measured by how well they can come to an answer while in the tutoring session but whether they can come to an answer on their own after the tutoring session.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that a good teacher is able to inspire the student to find his or her own answers through guided learning, rather than simply giving the student the answers.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session with a student, I would try to get an understanding of what the student already knows, what the student struggles with, and how the student learns.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become independent by helping them develop learning skills and confidence in their processes.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
To keep a student motivated, I would help to set small goals that can be reached sequentially and make sure to recognize the achievement of these goals when they are reached.
