Hello! My name is Jigar Dedhia. I'm a junior at the Illinois Institute of Technology studying psychology. I've always had a thrill for helping other people out in different subjects. I love the reaction people make when they finally understand a concept or subject. I believe that everyone learns differently whether it is through lectures, or videos, or even notecards.
So there is always an approach to making the material easier to understand.
Learning should be fun at the same time. The teachers that stood out to me never failed to make whatever they were teaching enjoyable for the whole class. And that is what I believe is very important. If there is a way to make the material a little more bearable, it encourages students to want to learn.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I try to relate to the student and be patient. I also believe that asking questions to guide a student is important so it gets the gears going in the mind. Plus, learning should be fun.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to get to know the student and see which areas are difficult for the student.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By asking questions. I also enjoy doing problems independently and then coming back together to discuss the problem.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Words of encouragement are very important as well as praise for doing a great job. Even attempting a problem or question.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try a different angle. Or even trying an outside resource for help.
